Today was a day off. Nothing physical was done. I slept in to 10:15. I sort of felt groggy and sick-like, but not too much. Drank some tea made from ginger and cinnamon. Ate a bunch of nuts. Watched The Office. Took a nap.
Vote, now! For this next year, should I:
1) Focus on completing a 50 miler. Training includes running long, having tons of fun, and really listening to my body. If I want to take a day off, I will. Mileage will be 70+ a week.
or
2) Focus on running a marathon PR. Training includes a very structured plan that may cause me to find running less fun.

Abby said that she hasn't run a race in a couple of years, but it seems like she is enjoying it immensely. That is why I am leaning more toward option 1. I want running to stay fun.

Well, I don't know you that well yet, but I'm leaning towards option 1.
Structure is good, keeps us disciplined. But if we get too stringent, it takes the fun out, y'know? I think if you focus on doing a 50-mile race and have that as your motivation, the discipline will happen naturally, and you'll have more fun.
Anyway, that's my knee jerk vote. Could change.
Is there a way you could combine some discipline from option 2 and toss it up to option 1?
I have the feeling that you're already leaning towards one option. What do YOU want to do?
Maybe you could train for the 50, run the first half of it in marathon time, then complete the 50. That way, you will get a marathon time and finish the 50.
